Overview

OPTES Group manufactures the CLEANPRO range of non-ferrous fluxes at its production facility in Egypt, engineered for aluminium and copper melt shops and smelters.

The range covers degassing, covering, cleaning, drossing, alloy treatment, refining, deoxidation, slag treatment, wall cleaning, and environmentally friendly flux formulations — supporting impurity removal, hydrogen reduction, oxide control, and improved casting quality.

ALUMINIUM TREATMENT FLUXES

Fluxes for aluminium melt treatment.

Degassing & Gas Control

Solid degassing tablets or treatment formulations that promote controlled gas release and reduce dissolved hydrogen in molten aluminium, cutting gas porosity risk and supporting inclusion flotation.

Covering & Cleaning Fluxes

Protect the melt surface, reduce oxidation, and agglomerate oxides into removable dross. Three exothermic reaction levels — normal, medium, and high — selected by charge cleanliness and required cleaning intensity.

Granulated Covering & Drossing Fluxes

Granulated forms give controlled addition, uniform distribution, lower dust, and more consistent reaction behavior. Can reduce flux consumption by up to approximately 40% versus conventional powder forms, subject to charge condition, operating practice, and dosage control.

Alloy Treatment & Refining

Multi-functional refining fluxes for complex alloy purification: alkali metal reduction, sodium control in Al-Si-Mg alloys, calcium and lithium control where applicable, trace element management, inclusion flotation, and selective magnesium reduction (de-magging) where required.

Wall Cleaning Fluxes

Remove or soften oxide build-up, corundum formation, and adhered residues from furnace walls, crucibles, and holding equipment, supporting longer furnace service life and stable melting conditions.

Specialized & Environmental Fluxes

Fluoride-free and low-emission formulations that reduce environmental impact while maintaining melt protection, oxide control, and metal recovery. Includes hot dross treatment and furnace maintenance fluxes where applicable.

COPPER TREATMENT FLUXES

Fluxes for copper and copper-alloy melts.

Cleaning & Covering Fluxes

Remove impurities, dross, and non-metallic inclusions while forming a protective surface cover that limits oxidation and absorbs contaminants into a removable slag phase.

Deoxidation

Chemical reducers convert copper oxides back into metallic copper and reduce dissolved oxygen where required, supporting conductivity and melt quality.

Degassing & Refining

Specialized treatments reduce entrapped gases, dissolved oxygen, and non-metallic contamination in molten copper and copper alloys, improving melt density and surface quality.

Slag Treatment

Advanced slag coagulants agglomerate fine oxide and slag particles into larger masses for efficient removal from the melt surface.

Alloy-Specific Solutions

Alloy-specific formulations selected by copper alloy chemistry, oxidation behavior, and melt-loss risk. For brass (Cu-Zn) alloys, covering fluxes help reduce zinc oxidation and evaporation during melting.

Flux selection depends on alloy type, charge condition, contamination level, furnace practice, and the target metallurgical result. Aluminium operations may require degassing, covering and cleaning fluxes with different exothermic reaction levels, granulated fluxes for controlled dosing, alloy treatment and refining fluxes for alkali metal or magnesium control, wall cleaning fluxes for furnace maintenance, and environmental formulations where lower emissions or fluoride-free operation is required. How do covering and cleaning fluxes work in aluminium melting?

Covering and cleaning fluxes form an active protective layer on the molten aluminium surface, limiting oxidation and reducing direct contact between the melt and atmosphere. During reaction, the flux promotes separation and agglomeration of aluminium oxides and non-metallic inclusions into a dry, removable dross phase. This improves melt cleanliness, supports metal recovery, and reduces the risk of oxide-related casting defects.

What is the difference between normal, medium, and high exothermic covering fluxes?

The exothermic level defines the intensity of heat release and chemical activity during flux reaction. Normal exothermic fluxes are used for cleaner charges and routine surface protection, while medium and high exothermic fluxes are selected for more oxidized, contaminated, or scrap-based charges requiring stronger cleaning and dross separation. The correct reaction level depends on charge quality, melt temperature, furnace type, oxide load, and required skimming performance.

What is the advantage of granulated covering and drossing fluxes?

Granulated fluxes provide more controlled addition, improved distribution over the melt surface, lower dust generation, and more consistent reaction behavior compared with fine powder forms. Their particle size and flow characteristics help improve dosing control and reduce material losses during handling and addition. Depending on operating practice and charge condition, granulated fluxes can reduce flux consumption while maintaining effective covering, drossing, and oxide separation performance.

How can sodium be reduced in Al-Si-Mg aluminium alloys?

Sodium reduction in Al-Si-Mg alloys is managed through specialized alloy treatment and refining fluxes designed to react with alkali metal contamination and assist its transfer into the non-metallic phase. These formulations support sodium control while also contributing to overall melt cleanliness and trace element management. The treatment should be selected according to sodium level, alloy composition, magnesium content, melt temperature, and holding time.

When are de-magging fluxes used?

De-magging fluxes are used when the magnesium content in molten aluminium must be reduced to meet the required alloy specification or casting performance target. These fluxes promote selective oxidation or chemical removal of magnesium from the melt while minimising unnecessary loss of other alloying elements where possible. Application depends on initial Mg level, target chemistry, melt temperature, furnace practice, and treatment time.

What are wall cleaning fluxes used for?

Wall cleaning fluxes are used to soften, detach, or chemically attack oxide build-up, corundum formation, and adhered residues on furnace walls, crucibles, and holding equipment. In aluminium melting operations, hard oxide deposits can reduce furnace efficiency, contaminate the melt, and shorten refractory service life. Regular use of suitable wall cleaning fluxes helps maintain cleaner furnace conditions and more stable melting performance.
