Cleaner, sounder castings by design
OPTES manufactures feeding and slag control solutions at its production facility in Egypt, engineered to manage the critical transition from molten metal to solid casting.
The range extends riser feeding time, improves melt cleanliness, and helps reduce shrinkage porosity and slag-related defects before they affect final casting quality.
PRODUCT RANGEExothermic feeding compound applied to the riser surface during pouring; ignites on contact with molten metal, generating localized heat and forming a protective insulating slag layer. Delays riser solidification, improves feeding efficiency, and eliminates shrinkage porosity in steel and cast-iron castings.
Pre-formed exothermic riser sleeves placed around the riser cavity in the sand mold before pouring; ignite on contact, triggering a controlled exothermic reaction with an insulating barrier from within the sleeve walls. Extends riser solidification time, reduces riser size requirements, increases casting yield, and eliminates shrinkage porosity in steel and cast-iron castings.
Slag coagulant added to the melt; facilitates rapid coagulation of slag, clumping impurities for clean skimming from the furnace or ladle surface. Delivers a cleaner melt entering the mold, fewer slag-related inclusions and defects, and reduced machining costs across steel, ductile iron, grey iron, copper and nickel alloys.
Thermofeed Pro and Thermofeed Sleeves target feeding efficiency and shrinkage porosity prevention — the compound is applied during pouring while the sleeve is placed before pouring, and the sleeve format additionally reduces riser size. Slag Free targets melt cleanliness and slag-related inclusion prevention, addressing a separate stage of the process. Both solutions may be used independently or together, depending on the casting process and the source of defects.
Packaging format, dosage rate, and application recommendations are provided according to product type, alloy, casting process, and foundry operating conditions. Please contact the OPTES technical team for the suitable recommendation.
OPTES manufactures Thermofeed Pro, an exothermic feeding compound; Thermofeed Sleeves, pre-formed exothermic riser sleeves; and Slag Free, a slag coagulant. The first two extend riser feeding time to eliminate shrinkage porosity, while Slag Free improves melt cleanliness.
Thermofeed Pro is a compound applied to the riser surface during pouring, while Thermofeed Sleeves are pre-formed cylinders placed around the riser cavity in the mold before pouring. Both ignite on contact with molten metal to delay riser solidification, but sleeves additionally reduce riser size requirements and increase casting yield.
Thermofeed Pro and Thermofeed Sleeves both target shrinkage porosity, which occurs when a riser solidifies before it can fully feed the casting. By extending the riser's molten state, both products allow continued feeding and eliminate this defect.
Slag Free is formulated for steel, ductile iron, grey iron, copper, and nickel alloys. It is used across furnace and ladle slag-management operations in these metallurgical processes.
When added to the melt, Slag Free facilitates rapid coagulation of slag, clumping impurities together so they can be cleanly skimmed from the furnace or ladle surface. This reduces slag-related inclusions and defects in the final casting.
